AI Chat Cleaner — Chrome Extension

AI Chat Cleaner is a browser extension that helps you manage, search, export, and delete conversations on ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) and Google Gemini (gemini.google.com). This privacy policy explains what data the extension accesses, how it is processed, and how it is stored. We are committed to full transparency: all processing happens locally in your browser, and no data is ever sent to external servers.

1. Information We Access

To provide its functionality, AI Chat Cleaner accesses the following data directly from the supported platforms while you use them:

Conversation titles — displayed in the extension's conversation list and used for search and filtering.
Conversation content — read when you use the search functionality to find specific messages, or when you export conversations.
Conversation metadata — such as creation dates and conversation identifiers, used for sorting and managing your conversations.

The extension only accesses data on chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com. It does not access data on any other website.

2. How Data Is Processed

All data processing occurs entirely within your browser. Specifically:

Search — conversation titles and content are scanned locally to match your search queries. No search data is transmitted anywhere.
Export — conversations are compiled into files (JSON, Markdown, CSV, or ZIP) and saved directly to your device via your browser's download mechanism. Exported files never pass through any external server.
Deletion — when you explicitly request it, the extension sends delete requests to the platform's own API (ChatGPT or Gemini) on your behalf. This communicates only with the platform you are already signed into.

AI Chat Cleaner does not use analytics, tracking, telemetry, or any third-party services. There are no external network requests other than the ones made directly to the ChatGPT or Gemini platforms that you are actively using.

3. Data Storage

The extension uses chrome.storage.session to temporarily cache conversation data (such as titles and metadata) for performance. This cache:

Exists only in your browser's memory.
Is automatically cleared when you close your browser.
Is never written to disk or persisted between sessions.
Is not accessible to any other extension, website, or application.

Exported files are saved to your local device at a location you choose. The extension does not retain copies of exported data.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, transfer, or disclose any user data to any third party, under any circumstances.

No data leaves your browser except for API requests sent directly to ChatGPT or Gemini on your behalf (for example, when deleting a conversation). These requests go only to the platform you are actively using and are authenticated with your own session.

5. Personal Information

AI Chat Cleaner does not collect any personal information. The extension:

Does not require account creation or sign-up.
Does not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information.
Does not use cookies or tracking identifiers.
Does not fingerprint your browser or device.

6. Security

We take the following measures to protect your data:

All processing is performed locally within your browser's sandboxed extension environment.
The extension requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function on the supported platforms.
Session-based caching ensures no data persists after the browser is closed.
No data is transmitted to any server owned or operated by us.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension's functionality or to comply with applicable requirements. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
